Online play
I'm new to the game! What should I do to be able to play online?
Welcome, we're glad to have you! There are few quick ways to get involved. First, you can play on Board Game Arena for free with any of the community-built starter decks against anyone worldwide! There's also a great tutorial if you're looking to share Altered with a friend.

When you're ready to build a deck of your own, create an account on Altered.re. You can build a custom deck for any available format on our website. The next time you visit BGA, you can connect your Altered.re account right on the game's main page. If your custom deck is saved and legal, you'll be able to access it on the deck selection screen. If something's not working, come check in our Discord and we'll do our best to help. We recommend testing out accessing your deck with a game with a friend before taking it into general online play, just to make sure everything's working correctly.
What's the difference between Altered.re, Altered-DB and Altered Core?
Altered.re is the official home of the Altered Re:Union project. Altered-DB and Altered Core are services developed and maintained by other dedicated and talented fans. They offer a range of services such as deckbuilding and unique search tools. As a community-led, volunteer-staffed organization, we are fortunate to work with other teams who want to integrate with the official Altered Re:Union services. While many tools on Altered-DB and Altered Core stand alone, decks created in either of their databases can be linked to your Altered.re profile and used on BGA once connected.
Why Board Game Arena?
Board Game Arena is the main platform for Altered's online play for multiple reasons. It's effective and already mostly up-to-date, which helps keep Re:Union's resources focused on other projects rather than building up a new system. It's the platform that Equinox has requested we use for online play going forward. Also, BGA's owners, Asmodee, already have a partnership with Equinox. While there are other options, this is the most efficient choice for us. We know there's room for improvement on the mobile experience. If you can help get us there more quickly, please join in as a volunteer!
When will Roots of Corruption and Neverending Journey be playable on BGA?
Plans are in place for both of these sets to be added to BGA, but the dates haven't been determined yet. Currently all common and rare RoC cards have been implemented in code, and playtesting should be starting soon. It takes a lot of volunteer hours from our developers and playtesters to implement new cards and ensure that everything works properly. That's especially true for interactions with new uniques. If you'd like to help move this process forward, we'd be excited to have you join us and volunteer!
Who do we report BGA bugs to now?
Please continue to report bugs on BGA the same way as before: directly within that platform! We also have a channel in our Discord server where bug reports can be discussed. That may be helpful, but an official bug report has a better chance of being able to resolve the issue. Please remember that as Re:Union takes over the management of Altered on BGA, bug fixes are being done by volunteers and may take more time.
How can we find players on BGA?
We're working on bringing in more players and providing solutions for setting up more ways to find players looking for a match, but right now our focus is on making sure everything is operational and plans are moving forward. Please be patient with us! There are multiple options within our Discord server for finding more players within the community. Turn-based games are very popular as an option for playing across timezones, so maybe give those a try for now!
How do we import our decks?
There are multiple options for importing your decks either from your altered.gg account or from other community-created deckbuilder platforms. Check out our article on the process here. Once you've imported your decks and made them legal for the current formats, you can play your custom decks on BGA. If they're not appearing there yet, check them for legality against the format you're trying to play. Some common issues include the deck being categorized under the incorrect format, or alternate art cards (which are currently not allowed) being included in the deck. Try asking on our Discord as well, as someone there may be able to help troubleshoot. If you can't figure it out, please make sure to create a bug report for us.
What's the plan for Organized Play?
The Organized Play team is working on seasons of casual and competitive play in coordination with the BGA release schedule. In the meantime, there are ongoing online tournaments using the current formats as well as some local events found on our Events page. This process is a priority for us, but it does take a lot of time and effort to develop. If you're able to help in supporting organized play, we would appreciate it! Join the Organized Play channel and see how you can get involved.

You can also use this tool to organize tournaments at your local game shop. It will give us some data to see how we can include in-person play in the organized play program we prepare.
What are the formats?
Official formats for Re:Union will include a few ongoing options with several rotating choices throughout the seasons. You can learn more about them here. The community will help develop and choose the official formats for competitive and Arena play.
Printing
Is official printing happening?
This is currently a question for Equinox. We'll update this space as a more clear answer is shared.
Can I print proxy cards?
Individuals are allowed to create and print their own proxy cards using the provided card files from Equinox. As is required in our official agreement with Equinox, you cannot change the art in any way, including adding extensions to the art for "bleed." You cannot use AI tools such as upscaling to increase the resolution. This is true for both generative AI or content-aware tools, as both would change the art.
Can we use AI for printing, design or other projects?
Our agreement with Equinox requires that Re:Union honors the community and ethical standards that the game was originally built on. That means that all AI use is disallowed in relation to Re:Union art and game design. Even if it weren't a requirement, it's been an important part of the game's community to celebrate the creative work of artists, designers and developers.
Re:Union and Equinox
What is Re:Union?
Altered Re:Union is a community-led nonprofit association under French loi 1901 with the goal of preserving and growing the future of Altered TCG, which officially ended in early 2026. As a nonprofit, we have an established management team and board, as well as rules and bylaws about the work we do. This allows us to enter into legal agreements and act in specific ways to preserve the game. Our structure and goals as an organization are based on the model of Null Signal Games, which preserved and developed the Netrunner TCG community after its official closure. You can read how our initial vision for Re:Union grew out of their example here.

We're a fully volunteer-staffed team made up of fans with a range of skills. We've officially partnered with Equinox to continue Altered's adventure, maintaining its presence on BGA and developing the community. We welcome people who want to be a part of this journey, whether just by showing support or offering help as they're able.
How are we partnered with Equinox?
Altered Re:Union has an official agreement with Equinox to continue the various parts of the game of Altered. This includes expanding the lore, making new cards, running physical and online tournaments and making tools and services to enhance the game. While pursuing those goals, we must abide by the guidelines under which the game was developed, encouraging a spirit of discovery and positivity and a celebration of creative work.
Are you planning to make new cards?
It is our hope that we can make new cards and sets in the future in a similar manner to how Null Signal Games does for Netrunner TCG. Our immediate priorities are to implement the remaining official sets in BGA and develop organized play seasons. Game design and production is not a short process and requires extensive resources. It will take time for us to reach the point that we can announce our first original set. Re:Union developers and players are still discussing the vision for the adventure's next steps in the Discord. If you have game design experience and would like to help us move forward, please join in!
Why am I not able to scan cards?
As part of Equinox's sunsetting of altered.gg's services, scanning capabilities were shut down in May 2026. Altered Re:Union does not have the capability to link the QR codes to the exact card details. It may be a project that a talented volunteer may be able to work on in the future but there is currently no way for this to work.
How can I get my data exported from Altered.gg and Equinox?
Until June 16, 2026, you can log into the altered.gg website and access the "My Account Parameters" option by clicking your username in the top right corner. Within that menu, click "Personal Data" and follow the instructions to request to have your data collected into a zip file and made available to download. That file contains a listing of your current collection as well as an encrypted file. Once Re:Union is able to incorporate ownership into our platform and you agree to our terms and conditions for holding the data, you'll be able to use that file to import your unique and alternate art collection. All commons and rares are available to all players and accounts for free.

After June 16, 2026, you will need to email Equinox at support@altered.gg to request your data.
How can I join Re:Union?
Join the Altered Re:Union Discord community to connect with players and learn how you can share your skills! As a fully volunteer-staffed project, we rely on the community's help to reach our goals together. There's a space for everyone to get involved, such as the following teams: Communication, Localization, Lore, Operations, Organization, Organized Play, Development, Visual Art and Wiki. Check out each team's respective channel in the Discord to see what we're working on and get involved!
