Printing service details begin to be shared

Set printing services are planned for all official Altered base sets through an external partner, according to Equinox. Some details are ready to share, though the plan is still in process and may change before its official release. While Altered Re:Union is collaborating directly with Equinox to continue the game and to provide updates on printing options, we are not involved in any way with the negotiation of these specific services, nor for their support once they are live.

The official print service will offer cards by the “pack” at first, meaning a collection of all of the cards of a specific rarity for a specific faction, at one instance each. Three packs would be required to make a playset for a given rarity for a faction. All base sets will be available and some alternate arts sets. The list of which cards will be included or excluded is not finalized. Players will be able to order packs in either standard or foil. Because the partner will have access to the full-definition art, the cards will print in a better quality than could be made privately, and the original foil art details will be maintained. Each of these cards will have a small logo to differentiate them from the originals.

A number of random uniques from Sets 4, 5 and 6 will be provided with each pack. The price per pack is still unknown at this point. Additional official details are still expected through Equinox.

Any cards obtained physically through this printing service or as bonus uniques will not be able to be redeemed for digital ownership, as those functions have been discontinued. Digital versions of all standard commons, rares and exalted cards are already available to be used in decks on Board Game Arena for all players. Players can find additional details about how Re:Union integrates card ownership in our article on collection ownership.

As outlined in our FAQ, individuals can create and print their own proxy cards using the provided card files from Equinox as long as they don’t change the art in any way, including adding extensions to the art for "bleed." You cannot use AI tools such as upscaling to increase the resolution. This is true for both generative AI or content-aware tools, as both would change the art outside of the contract made between Equinox and the original artists. As the Altered assets have been made available on the express condition that their use is only on a strict personal and noncommercial basis, players are allowed to print their proxies through any other means if they wish to do so, but offering a bulk or group proxy service to the players outside this partner is not permitted by Equinox.

Equinox’s efforts to secure official printing services help us continue toward our goal of preserving the future of Altered’s gameplay.
