Kauri takes first in the Seeds of Unity Season Finale

LuigiPoliakoff teamed up with Kauri to take the win in the Seeds of Unity Season Finale hosted on Board Game Arena Aug. 9. Spartacus, partnered with Basira, picked up second along with an invite to the next Altered Worlds event.

The group stage event, played in Frontier format, had more than 100 registered players with the Top 32 moving on to a single-elimination cut. The tournament was streamed with commentary by Argon and Xagramaelian. 

Because LuigiPoliakoff already has a Worlds invite, Spartacus is joined by Birgor, Matata and Arthour, who had also won the Aug. 2 Roots of Corruption Demo Deck Tournament. The top two players will receive a Woollyback plush, and all players who completed at least three rounds will receive three random RoC digital uniques. Players who reached Top 32 will receive another three, with three more for each round passed.

Bravos and Muna led the faction breakdown at 19 and 18 decks, respectively. Of those, Teija and Kojo were the most popular choices, with players partnering with them eight times each. Newcomer Turuun tied with Fen in the next spot at six decklists, followed by Basira, Akesha and Sierra. Take a look at more of the tournament data on altered.re.

LuigiPoliakoff’s Kauri v5.Ramp with uniques deck went undefeated in pool play and tapped into the power of the Naos to keep pressure up even after falling behind in later matches. Check out the final match on BGA. A few key notes:

• The ramp comes from three rare Colorful Cuckoos, a staple in many Kauri decks that can feed off of the plentiful Woollybacks provided. Other full count rares included Pasiphae, Zaratan and Soar. 

• Three Harry Houdini uniques (all costing 2/2) traded Mana Moth creation for card draw and resupply. The set also each includes a support skill reducing card cost by 1. 

• The Naos, even at common, provides two Manaseeds and a card each noon after play. They’re the highest mana cost in the deck, but with a little ramp or a Harry Houdini support ability from reserve, it’s possible to get one out in the first few turns. Once one is out, it becomes even easier to find and play a second.
