Call to Community: Starter Decks contest – April 25th 2026
Context
With the upcoming transition away from Altered.gg services, we want to ensure new players still have a clear and relevant way to enter the game in BGA.
Current starter decks have several limitations:
- Different rarities of the same card (common/rare) create confusion for new players
- Decks are restricted to a single set and don’t reflect the current state of the game
- Power level is too low to compete with constructed decks
This contest aims to address those issues by creating a new generation of starter decks.
Objective
Design a complete set of starter decks for each Hero (up to Set 5) that:
- Are easy to understand and pick up
- Reflect the current card pool and identity of the game
- Provide a fair and competitive experience
A total of 27 decks will be selected (1 per Hero).
Design Principles
Each submission should follow these guidelines:
1. Accessibility
- Clear game plan and readable synergies
- Smooth learning curve for first-time players
2. Representative of the Game
- Use cards across multiple sets
- Showcase core mechanics and Hero identity
3. Playability & Consistency
- Able to compete against constructed decks
- Avoid overly niche or high-variance strategies
Decklist Format (NUC)
- One deck per submission (multiple submissions allowed for different Heroes)
- Respect standard deckbuilding rules:
- 39 cards +1 hero
- 0–3 Exalted
- 0–15 Rares
- Max 3 copies per card name
- Decks may only include cards from Sets 1–5
- Current bans and errata remain in effect
