Altered Re:Union Outline Roadmap - June 2026
Altered Re:Union’s Board and Management teams have come together to build our first Roadmap, a list of the major projects, goals and plans we have for the future. After our first few months and a few important milestones behind us, it’s important to chart out what we see ahead of us not just for our own sake, but also for the fans of Altered TCG.
This Roadmap is an important next step in our processes, especially as we continue to do our best to follow the guidelines set out in our initial Case Study and Roadmap (modeled after the Null Signal Games example for Netrunner) from April 2026.
A few important things to note. First, you will notice that there are no specific dates on the roadmap below. We need to be clear: Though we are a nonprofit association under French loi 1901, we are not a company. We are an organization staffed fully with volunteers who give up their time freely to work on projects. As such, we cannot guarantee when these goals will be reached. Some of these projects are much bigger than others, and will take many smaller steps to accomplish.
Also, the roadmap does not include every single project we plan to do. There are plenty of additional goals we’re attempting to accomplish, both big and small, but these are where we’re starting.
Below, you’ll find our current Roadmap. This provides a general overview which we’ll dig deeper into through the rest of this post.
We’re sharing this to show you what we’re reaching for. We hope you see the high-end goals listed here and feel excited to join us on this journey. We’ll do our best to provide updates like our recent monthly milestone post, and we’ll refresh this Roadmap regularly as well with new projects and plans.
Whether you’re actively a part of the community or supporting more quietly, we can’t do this without you. If you see something here that you could help with, let us know! The more we work together, the quicker we reach these goals. If you don’t think we’re moving fast enough on a particular goal, you should join in and help!
For the Re:Union team, infrastructure is our top priority in these early stages, now that BGA play has transferred effectively. We’re working on developing our internal systems and processes for stability and to help cover for events like summer holidays. As a fully volunteer staff, we want to make sure that people can take the breaks they need to avoid burnout.
From there, some of our next immediate projects include improving our search engine (on top of the great updates it’s already received), implementing the new formats of Frontier and Living Legend, adding alternate arts in BGA, adding the ability for Re:Union to give out cards with tournaments, implementing the ability to trade/give cards and creating a new API for BGA game and tournament history. If you can lend a hand with any of these goals, you can see the results of your work for the community sooner rather than later!
We want to connect and build the Altered community. We’ve built the official Discord server to make it easy for new visitors to quickly connect and find what they’re looking for or get involved. The Organization Team is developing a ticketing system for requests, feedback and bugs.
We’re establishing outreach channels, starting with posts to the Re:Union website and branching into social media, Board Game Arena and other sites (such as Board Game Geek and Reddit) and a newsletter. We want to get the word out about the team’s achievements, project completion and ways to play such as tournaments or Tumults.
The Visual Art Team is gathering the resources required for Altered Re:Union branding across the website and projects. Distinguishing the nonprofit’s work from Equinox is important, as it keeps us from reusing assets that we do not have permission to use. Outreach is a major goal for the Re:Union team right now, developing a range of writers and artists we can work with for future sets and projects.
One of our main goals for Re:Union is to preserve the ability to play Altered online worldwide for as many people as possible. We want to bring both the Roots of Corruption and Neverending Journey sets to Board Game Arena, with starter decks and uniques. RoC’s commons, rares and exalteds have already been added to the platform’s infrastructure with playtesting about to begin. Even though this is in motion, the entire process still takes lots of volunteer hours. NEJ will be the next target after that.
The Localization Team is developing Smartcat as a project management tool for translation, aiming first for rules and Set 7 cards.
The Lore Team is collecting the lore from official sets to establish a full database of the current lore, setting up the Altered TCG Wiki in the process. The team is also connecting with Yoshi to determine where the lore can be expanded in the future. This will support the transition of the story from the end of Neverending Journey to the first Altered Re:Union set and move into the next narrative arc for Set 8 and beyond.
Organized Play, Tumults and upcoming seasons
We’re working on the next steps to continue organized and seasonal play with both online and in-person events, including for the remaining official sets. This also means developing the already-established online tournaments (such as those found on our Events tab), developing new formats (including those that involve unique ownership) and relaunching Tumult events. We also plan to continue to balance gameplay and manage patches through the seasons as we’re able. We have our sights set on rebuilding a competitive scene leading up to scheduling the first Altered Re:Union World Championships.
Sustainable structure and funding
The Governance Team is setting up an infrastructure that includes the key parts that we need to build an effective model going forward while supporting and involving the community. Among those are an ethics committee and the processes for electing people to the board and management positions. When a full election is held after our initial interim term, these guidelines will direct the process for the vote as well as the changeover in members of governance, management and board positions.
We’re reviewing funding models for Re:Union ongoing operating costs as well as development of these projects, as many current costs are being covered by team members. The team is building an initial donor program to create a sustainable starting point, followed by a first merchandising fundraiser to raise the funds needed to create our first set. Our goal is to build a community that can support its own growth, including future sets, organized play and competitive events.
These processes will happen in the nearer future to make it easier for Re:Union teams to focus on their individual goals with established leadership and funding in place.
Set 8 ahead
Another major goal for Re:Union is to continue the Altered journey with the first Altered Re:Union-branded new set. Our team is researching and planning for the next expansion, with development at least partially guided by data and details from Null Signal Games’ first continued Netrunner set. We’re hoping to learn from their mistakes and build on their successes.
This new set is an enormous project and will take a lot of time, but we look forward to continuing the Altered adventure with the Re:Union community.
These are enormous plans, but we know the community is up to the task. We can’t wait to work alongside everyone to make it happen. Altered Re:Union is a fully volunteer team working to preserve the future of Altered’s gameplay, making it accessible and open to as many players as possible.
