Take a look back at Pool 2 and check out Pool 3 distribution
We have now reached the end of another Frontier pool. This one was notably marked by the simultaneous arrival of Set 6, which players have had the opportunity to fully explore over the past few weeks.
The Uniques from Set 6 have proven to be particularly impactful and popular among players, with many of them now finding their way into the current metagame. While some may seem potentially too powerful, we do not believe that this Frontier pool was completely dominated by any particular strategy. As a result, we did not feel that any intervention was necessary during these past six weeks.
Before announcing the new Frontier pool distribution, let’s take a quick look back at how the different sets were distributed in Pool 2:
- Beyond the Gates - Kickstarter - 2.5%
- Beyond the Gates - Retail - 2.5%
- Trial by Frost - 5%
- Whispers from the Maze - 5%
- Skybound Odyssey - 15%
- Seeds of Unity - 25%
- Roots of Corruption - 45%
For this new edition, we have decided to completely remove the first three sets from the pool and focus exclusively on Skybound Odyssey, Seeds of Unity and Roots of Corruption.
This brings us to the following distribution for Frontier Pool 3, available Sept 29:
- Skybound Odyssey - 30%
- Seeds of Unity - 30%
- Roots of Corruption - 40%
With this distribution, we are slightly reducing the weight of Set 6 while still giving it a significant presence in the pool. We also wanted to try something new by offering, for the first time, a pool made up of 100% post-rotation Uniques!
The standout uniques from Pool 2
Before we wrap things up, the Frontier Team would like to take a quick look back at some of the standout Uniques from Pool 2, faction by faction.
This is a chance to revisit some of the cards that made their mark over the past few weeks, for better or for worse!
Axiom

This Frontier Pool for Axiom was undoubtedly marked by the unique Grumpy Imps. These Uniques take advantage of putting a card from hand into Reserve to either summon a Scarabot or provide boosts, depending on the version.
This mechanic particularly benefited Treyst & Rossum, who can perform this action with remarkable ease!
Bravos

On the Bravos side, it was certainly the unique Mia, Prima Ballerina that made the biggest splash.
Her ability to gain mana while drawing cards or generating card advantage was particularly appreciated by Bravos players, who apparently can never have enough cards in hand or mana at their disposal!
It was very impressive to watch these Mias in action throughout the pool.
Lyra

Many of the Uniques from Set 6 made their presence felt in Lyra throughout this season.
Among them, a category of Uniques enabling double Reserve plays, either through Resupply or through effects that draw and put cards from hand into Reserve, was particularly prominent. This unique Carbunclo is a good example.
The Janus Uniques also found their way into a number of decks in Lyra. This unique Janus has a particularly interesting effect, allowing you to clear your opponent’s Reserve while powering itself up by discarding your own Reserve.
Lyra’s Uniques certainly haven’t finished surprising us!
Muna

We were keeping a close eye on them, but the unique Pegasi certainly managed to make their mark during Pool 2.
Their ability to generate a double advancement can cause some games to end much more abruptly than expected. Some of these Pegasi also have the nice bonus of generating mana, and these were arguably the versions most popular among players.
Muna also benefited greatly from the Animal tribal synergies present in this set. This Molting Crab is a good example: it can potentially draw two cards while putting one of them into Reserve.
A real card-drawing engine for aggressive Animal decks, which can sometimes struggle to keep their resources flowing!
Ordis

Ordis certainly has nothing to complain about when it comes to this set.
Some particularly powerful Uniques, such as this Hop-o’-my-Thumb, gave a significant boost to heroes like Matz and Gulrang. Their ability to provide boosts whenever a token is created allows these heroes to put an impressive amount of stats into play!
This Reka Caterer is also very interesting for more aggressive decks. Despite not being playable before 5 mana, it generates three mana orbs and a draw all by itself.
Not bad when you simply need a few extra resources to close out the game!
Yzmir
Occultist: ALT_EOLE_B_YZ_106_U_2598
Receptionist: ALT_DUSTER_B_OR_91_U_5926

The Yzmir faction was clearly marked by the explosive arrival of Sam & Spook in competitive Altered.
Some very strong Uniques contributed to this success, such as this Qorgan Occultist, which provides a boost for each discarded card while also allowing you to draw and then discard a card itself.
On the other hand, this Adamant Receptionist is extremely impressive. We are no longer talking about double Sabotage, but triple Sabotage!
If your opponent had plans for their Reserve this turn or the next, those plans are suddenly in serious trouble. All of this for just 3 mana means that this Unique can completely disrupt your opponent’s early game if it arrives early enough.
Once again, Pool 2 has showcased a wide variety of Uniques and strategies, while giving Set 6 a particularly important role in the format.
With Pool 3, we are now taking another step forward by completely removing the first three sets and introducing a pool made up exclusively of post-rotation sets.
We can’t wait to see what players will do with it!
