Sam and Spook lead Roots of Corruption Demo Deck tournament

Arthour partnered with the new Yzmir hero Sam & Spook to win Re:Union’s inaugural Roots of Corruption Demo Deck tournament held on Board Game Arena Aug. 2. Fantomat took second place, with Wezbeth and CoraSan rounding out the Top 4, each also teaming up with Sam.

The group stage tournament hosted 77 players, running multiple pods with the top four players in each pod advancing to the next round. The Top 32 moved to a single-elimination style play up to the final table. The tournament was streamed with French commentary by Turiskal.

All players who finished at least three rounds will receive two random RoC digital uniques, with an additional two random RoC uniques for reaching Top 32 and for each round passed. The Re:Union team is working on digital distribution of uniques, and should be able to complete that within about a month. We’ll provide updates as quickly as we’re able. The Top 4 players will all be invited to be part of the team developing the Re:Union starter decks for the three new RoC heroes.

For this tournament, only the RoC demo decklists provided by Equinox were available to play, including the first official opportunities to play Gretel & Rust, Yeong-gi & Ember and Sam & Spook in a competitive setting. Sam was extremely popular with players, making up 15 of the Top 32 decklists. Yeong-gi picked up six and Gretel had four. Isaree and Kauri each ran three decks after the cut, with one Zhen player.

RoC will be going live on BGA for general play Aug. 17, but we’re finishing the Seeds of Unity competitive play with the SDU Season Finale Aug.9. The two finalists of that tournament will win a Woollyback plush each. The Top 4 will all receive an invite to the next Altered Worlds Championship event! All participants will receive three random RoC digital uniques if they play at least three rounds, plus three more for each round past Top 32.
